Part 1 – The Early Years

A Look Back at Jordan Baseball Academy and Titans Baseball

The coaching journey began in 1991 when Ian Jordan worked as the Pitching Coach and Assistant Manager for the LaSalle Cardinals, Montreal Jr. Elite League (1991 League and Provincial Champions). Over the years, he played a crucial role in assisting over 100 players/prospects to secure positions in college or professional baseball. Whether through private training or as part of his Summer Titans Travelling Teams, Ian has witnessed talented players honing their skills.

Observing raw talent blossom into college and professional prospects was immensely fulfilling for Ian. In that year, as the Pitching Coach in LaSalle, we witnessed Jason Wendt and Julian Tucker from the Mound As signing with the Braves and Astros, respectively. The following year, in 1992, Tom Valcke, Canadian Supervisor from the Major League Scouting Bureau (MLBB), recruited Ian Jordan as the Regional Scout for Eastern Canada. During those early years with the LaSalle Cardinals, we also saw Chris Unrat drafted from Arkansas State University (15th round by Texas Rangers, MLB), Patrick Lussier signed as a Free Agent (Pittsburgh Pirates), Shawn Painter (Montreal Expos 93) (Los Angeles Dodgers 94), James Mansell (Wayne State University, Nebraska), and S. Painter (Northeastern University 95/96), among many others we may not have mentioned or recalled!

In 1993, Ian, along with Super Coaches Alex Agostino and Sylvain Saindon, aided Team Quebec in securing the province's first-ever gold medal at the Canada Games in Kamloops, British Columbia. He then returned to Quebec and clinched the Provincial Jr. Elite Championships in 1993 & 1994.

By then, the 'Development Bug' had already bitten Jordan, and he had set out to nurture talented young amateur ballplayers, a pursuit that has continued for almost 30 years now!

Part 2 – The Years when Baseball in Quebec Changed

Among the many offers on his plate, Ian Jordan signed with the A.B.C. of Baseball Quebec in 1996 as the Pitching Coach. He would stay there until 2000. Working with S. Saindon and General Manager Skip (Richard Emond), we witnessed during that period the largest number of players and pitchers ever drafted out of the Academie Baseball Canada. Talented athletes were being developed: N. Ndungidi, drafted in the first round by the Orioles in '97, Y. Lachapelle in the second round by the Blue Jays in '96, R. Laplante in the sixth round by the Yankees in '99, Eric Langill by the Expos in '99, E. Cyr by the Padres in '98, P. Devey in the fifth round by the Dodgers, just to name a few, and there were many more!

"But honestly, I found Prata, Charron, Groleau, Houle, Emard, Langill, Berube, Tasiaux were such amazing athletes that those 4 years saw the most Québécois drafted (mostly pitchers) to be signed Ever! Also, the Elite leagues had so many more great athletes to offer!

I believe that this was a product of great programs in the '90s and coaches like Fournier, Heneault, Saindon, Pouliot in Charlesbourg made drafting and signing Quebec players easy," said Jordan. He mentioned that he probably has forgotten by now so many other amazing players and coaches.

Teaching and scouting throughout the province allowed him to offer many coaching clinics. He still remembers doing a Level 1 and 2 National Coaching Certification Program Clinic for 100 Amateur Coaches in Pierrefonds at PCHS in '99! This was fun, working with pro, amateur, and volunteer coaches back then.

After seeing his Jr. Elite Baseball teams (LaSalle Cardinals and Saint-Eustache Bisons) win FIVE League and Provincial Championships, setting League Team Records in 1995 that still stand today, he also during his 12-year-old league coaching career produced seven Pitchers of the Year winners. Quite impressive, being that consistent! All he had to say about his accomplishment was: "It was so much fun working with athletes like G. O'Brien, Y. Lachapelle, Alexandre Paquin, S. Gagnon, G. Major, M.A. Major, Forest, Valiquette. They were talented and competitive, I just had to show them how to get the most out of their talent and lucky for me they were smart and kept learning through their careers."

After seeing the merge of the 3 Top Jr. Major Leagues in Quebec in the mid-nineties, which history has shown, unfortunately, did not make baseball in Quebec stronger! Decisions helped Soccer Quebec dominate the summer landscape by the mid-2000s till today!

After helping to place another 40+ players in U.S. Colleges, Jordan mentioned: "I love to see our talented young athletes pursue a dream, like Mansell at Wayne State, Paquette and Painter at Northeastern, Langill at Des Moines, Lamarche at Brevard, Dubiel at Albany, Dufour at Ste-Rose, to name a few…

By 2004, Ian Jordan needed a new CHALLENGE!
